The paintings are generally developed from line drawings, though ideas can come from anywhere. There is always a focus on formal considerations such as shape, pattern and structure etc - giving the work an element of abstraction.

I was trained at Bournemouth College of Art which, at that time, still put serious emphasis on the importance of drawing from observation as a means of learning. I specialised in painting, typically creating anything from small oil sketches to large scale canvases; studied Environmental Design which involved making large oil paintings for specific locations, the largest of these was 16ft long.

I could always, when necessary, work commercially - as an illustrator and designer for giftware companies, a decorated tile manufacturer, and for many years I designed and created artwork for an advertising agency. I also went through a period of drawing on-the-spot portraits at outside events for countless satisfied customers, mostly around the south of England, but also in Australia.

I am now based in Poole with the focus on drawing and oil painting. Trustee for Poole & East Dorset Art Society (PEDAS). Member of Bournemouth Arts Club
