With an emphasis on shape, pattern & structure the paintings are often developed from line drawings, though ideas can come from anywhere. Drawing in its different forms is important, observational drawing in particular, in learning to respond, select and 'design' – leading to a degree of semi-abstraction. Portraiture and figure drawing have been a focus, producing images which have found homes all around the world. Conveying the individuality, expression & attitude in every face is always a fascination. I graduated from Art College (with distinction) having specialised in drawing & painting. Paintings typically ranged from small oil sketches to 6ft canvases, I studied Environmental Design which involved painting large sale canvases for specific locations - the largest 16ft long. Over the years I have continued to enjoy the challenges of drawing from life; I teach drawing and hold a teaching certificate in adult education. Through a varied commercial career I worked as an illustrator and designer for two giftware companies, and a decorated tile manufacturer, and over many years prepared artwork for an advertising agency. In terms of portraiture I have demonstrated many ‘on the spot’ portraits, creating portraits for countless satisfied customers. My work has been largely centered round the south of England but has also taken me to Australia where my portraits were met with the same appreciation. I am now based in Poole, Dorset, UK. The famous Jurassic Coast & Purbeck Hills are a short drive away. I work as a figurative artist running art courses and other organised drawing and painting groups (these activities are currently suspended).
